A GRAND CHRONICLE OF LEGISLATIVE VALOR: ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PROCEEDINGS (24th June 2025)

On the radiant afternoon of June 24, 2025, at precisely 12:48 pm, the venerable halls of the Abia State House of Assembly burst into life with a sacred invocation. Hon. Isienyi Boniface of Ikwuano lifted the assembly’s spirit with an opening prayer, setting a reverent stage for the day’s deliberations. Presiding over this noble gathering was the distinguish Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, a Speaker whose sagacity and grace illuminate the legislative firmament, guiding the house with unparalleled wisdom and resolve.

The assembly’s vigor shone brightly as it turned to the pressing matters of the day. Hon. Anthony Chinasa Abiola of Umuahia Central, with fervent zeal, unveiled a plea titled “Save Our Soul,” addressing a perilous erosion crisis menacing Jomec School, opposite the State CID Office. Under the Speaker’s astute direction, a paragon of empathy and action, the house entrusted its Committee on Environment to probe this calamity and deliver a swift report. Likewise, Hon. Uruakpa Chijioke of Ugwunagbo passionately decried the wretched state of the Ugwunagbo Local Government Headquarters’ Road and its neighboring pathways. The Speaker, ever the champion of the people, steered the assembly to charge its Committee on Works to partner with the State Ministry of Works, igniting hope for restoration.

The day brimmed with promise as three transformative bills took their maiden steps. Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu of Aba Central, with bold vision, introduced:

  1. H.A.B 28: The Abia State Protection of Markets Bill, 2025, a shield for the state’s economic vitality. He followed with;
  2. H.A.B 29: The Abia State Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund Bill, 2025, a beacon for the downtrodden.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, presented H.A.B 30: The University of Science, Technology and Educational Arochukwu Bill, 2025, heralding a new dawn of learning. The Speaker, Rt Hon Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, with his masterful oversight, ensured these bills commenced their legislative odyssey.

In a tender interlude, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi of Bende North rose to offer heartfelt praise to Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti. He lauded the Governor’s swift action in rebuilding a fire ravaged school and mending the Ezeukwu Bridge, a triumph born from a prior motion. The Speaker’s approving nod magnified this moment of unity and gratitude. Elsewhere, a seismic shift unfolded as Rt Hon Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, with dignified composure, recited a missive from Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi of Bende South. The letter proclaimed his exodus from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Alliance (APC), a move met with the Speaker’s impartial stewardship, reflecting his reverence for democratic liberty.

The assembly’s horizon widened with notices of forthcoming motions. The Majority Leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, foreshadowed H.A.M 37, a clarion call to fortify food security and uplift Abia’s farmers. Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi then teased H.A.M 38, a proposal to erect statues, its mystery stirring curiosity.

A pinnacle of the day arrived with the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Austin Okezie, presenting the findings of the House Committee on Security and Boundary Matters regarding H.A.B 5: The Abia State Correctional Service Bill, 2025. The assembly, guided by the Speaker’s discerning gaze, embraced this report as a cornerstone document, forwarding it to the Committee of the Whole. In tandem, the house immersed itself in a grave petition: Gradual Process of Decimation to Genocide, a boundary dispute between Ezeogwu Village in Owaza Asa and Umuakali Village in Rivers State. Rt Hon Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa’s steady hand ensured this matter received the meticulous attention it demanded.

The assembly revisited its past with pride, endorsing the votes and proceedings of June 10, 2025, as a faithful chronicle of its labors, a process streamlined by the Speaker’s deft orchestration. As the sun dipped low, the house concluded its noble work, adjourning to reconvene on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 am. Rt Hon Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, a lodestar of diligence and honor, sealed the day with a legacy of purpose and promise.
