‘A Woman Has No Right To Return Bride Price’ — Rita Edochie Fires Yul

Ace Nigerian actress, Rita Edochie has berated Yul for asking for a refund of the bride price he paid when he married his Ex-wife May.

Yul and his estranged wife have been  engaging in a heated online dispute in the past days.

The controversy started in April 2022, when the actor announced the arrival of a child with Judy Austin Muoghalu without his wife consent.

In May’s New Year post, she said 2023 came with “too many adversities and misfortunes”. She also said the worst of the experience was that 2023 “stole my own flesh and blood” which implied the death of  her first child with Yul, Kambilichukwu in March.

In response to her post, Yul accused May of having breast enlargement surgery in the same year without his consent.

Yul also cautioned his first wife against manipulating public opinion on social media to foster resentment towards him.

Yul further said his estranged wife “filed for divorce but refused to return the bride price”.

Weighing in on the online dispute between the estranged couple, Rita, who is a member of the Edochie family, argued that May has no right to return the bride price Yul requested.

The movie star, who is married to Tony Edochie, a younger brother to Pete Edochie, Yul’s father, added that the divorce case is still in court.

She maintained that Yul should go to his wife’s hometown and demand the return of the bride price.

“A woman has no right to return the bride price of a man; rather it is the man who moves to the woman’s hometown with his kinsmen to ask for the return of the bride price, same way he went to pay initially,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Queen May has been asking for a divorce. She urged Yul our son to come retrieve the bride price but he kept holding back thinking Queen May would later give in to his polygamous intentions.

“Not until late 2023 when the matter was taken to court, only then did he start demanding the bride price which you (Judy Austin) have been pushing him to do.

“The unfortunate thing is that this matter is now in full custody of the court and nothing can be done till the case is over in court. So I repeat, no pride price can be returned except with consent and order from the court. So you have to wait till whenever.”
