Abia Government Unveils Agricultural Intervention Project and Prototype Market Construction Across 17 LGAs

The Abia State Government has announced a major step forward in its agricultural revolution. This is part of its ongoing Food Security Program, which is designed to boost food production, create jobs, and empower local communities.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing at the Government House, Umuahia, while giving updates on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu revealed that, in furtherance of the Food Security Program in the agricultural sector, the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is collaborating with all 17 Local Government Councils of the state to roll out an Agricultural Intervention Project.

According to him, “Besides the provision of food for the citizenry, this intervention programme will provide a source of employment and empowerment for Abians.”

In addition to the agricultural boost, the Commissioner also announced that the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is set to embark on the construction of four robust prototype markets across the 17 LGAs of the state.

He explained that the project would be implemented in batches and would officially commence within a fortnight. Each of the prototype markets, he said, will feature 40 local stalls equipped with solar-powered lights, solar-powered mobile facilities, public conveniences, and solar-powered phone charging routes, a design aimed at promoting sustainability and modernity in the state’s market infrastructure.

This dual initiative, an agricultural intervention program coupled with modern market construction, signals Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to not only tackling food security but also fostering economic empowerment, sustainable infrastructure, and grassroots development across Abia State.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
