Women across Abia State have commended Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, PhD, CON, and Hon. Dame Blessing Nwagba, PhD, for their bold participation in the recently concluded APC senatorial primaries, describing them as symbols of courage and resilience in the state’s political space.
Nwaogu contested for the APC ticket in Abia Central, while Nwagba vied for Abia South. According to women leaders and groups, their decision to enter the keenly contested primaries has inspired many women and young girls to see politics as a space where they too can lead and be heard.
“They have already written their names in gold,” the women said, noting that regardless of the primary outcomes, both leaders broke barriers by standing for equity, competence, and quality representation at a time when female aspirants still face intimidation and discouragement.
The women praised the maturity, strength of character, and issue-based approach displayed by Nwaogu and Nwagba throughout the process. They said the duo’s conduct elevated the tone of the contest and proved that women possess the experience and leadership capacity needed for governance.
The commendation also carried a call to action. The women urged political parties and stakeholders to create more opportunities for female participation in elective positions, arguing that inclusive politics is critical for justice, fairness, and balanced representation in decision-making.
They added that the visibility of Nwaogu and Nwagba in the APC primaries has strengthened the voice of women in Abia politics and sent a strong message to the next generation: leadership is not limited by gender, and courage in the face of tough political terrain deserves recognition.
