Abuja Court Sets Aside Ruling To Place EFCC’s Chairman In Kuje Prison

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had his contempt charges and all conviction orders against him set aside by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Thursday.

Remember that Bawa was sentenced to Kuje detention facilities earlier this week after being found guilty of contempt of court, pending the order’s reversal.

The EFCC Chairman disobeyed a November 21, 2018 order, according to a ruling by Justice Chizoba Oji.

The court had ordered the restoration of seized property, which included a Range Rover and an amount of N40 million.

However, after hearing an application from Bawa, Justice Chizoba Oji, on Thursday ordered the proceedings to be halted.

The application was made in accordance with various relevant laws, including Sections 6(6) (a) and 36(1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended), Section 91 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act, Cap. S6 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004, and others.
