AIB’s Top Music Winner For The Week Goes To A$AP Rocky “Same Problem”

American award-winning hip-hop rapper, songwriter, and performer; Rakim Athelaston Mayers who we all know as A$AP Rocky comes through with a new firing hip-hop effort song titled Same Problems.

It’s no secret that generations of hip-hop artists have been victims of gun violence and substance abuse, and the past decade has witnessed a staggering increase in fatalities across the genre. In his latest single “Same Problems,” A$AP Rocky examines the cycle of life and death combined with intergenerational struggles and a yearning for change where possible.

Rocky recalled how he coped with Yams’ death and how it put him on edge for the future. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Rocky said remorseful feelings about his lyrics that glorify violence pushed him to write the song.

“I think I was feeling plight. I think I was also feeling a sense of guilt, because every time we lose somebody in our community, we all — especially me — have a habit of just saying things like, ‘It’s messed up. It’s wrong. Why do these kinds of things happen?’” he explained. “You ask a bunch of questions and usually … I never took time out to understand that I was part of the problem because I was contributing those kind of lyrics and whatnot to songs.”

The meaning of the song “Same Problems?” is a struggle, challenge, self-awareness, perseverance, and societal issue. A$AP dedicates the song to departed rappers who died to various means such as gun violence and substance overdoses. The tribute includes pictures of rappers including Takeoff, The Notorious B.I.G., Juice WRLD, and many others.

Below are the lyrics and video;

Intro: Lil Yachty

How many problems get solved?
How many problems get solved? Mm, nah (Ah)

Verse 1: A$AP Rocky, Miguel & Lil Yachty
Niggas dying every other night (Solved)
Niggas crying, that’s a part of life
Lying to my face (Solved), tryna say that it’s all good (Ooh)
No, it’s nothing right (Shame on, shame, ooh, shame on, ah)
Put your five fingers high, to the sky
On the stand, put it on your life
Stand by a nigga, wrong or right
Not new to drama, nigga, all my life
Not new to trauma, nigga, all my life (Ooh)
Been ducking karma, nigga, all my life (Shame on, ah, shame, ooh, shame on)

Chorus: A$AP Rocky & Miguel
How many problems get solved? (Ooh)
Am I a product of things that I saw?
How many problems get solved? (Ooh)
Am I a product of things in my songs?
How many problems get solved? (Ooh)
Am I a product of all of my flaws?
How many problems get solved (Ooh)
If we don’t get involved?…..
