Ajax In Purse Of £25 Super Eagle Defender

As a result of Lisandro Martinez’s £46 million transfer to Manchester United, Eredivisie defending champions, Ajax Amsterdam have now joined the list of teams looking to sign Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey.

Since his performance as ‘man of the match’ against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League Final, the Nigerian International has been the focus of heated discussion regarding his future at Ibrox.

In order to fill the vacuum left by the similarly versatile Martinez, who is close to completing his move to Old Trafford to reunite with his former Ajax coach Erik ten Haag, the Dutch giants are reportedly preparing a bid for the 22-year-old defender.

According to Alex Crook of TalkSPORT, Alfred Schreuder’s will soon submit a transfer request for Bassey to the Eredivisie.

He said, “I know Rangers are keen to keep him for at least one more year but you have to believe the lure of playing in the Champions League and playing for an iconic club like Ajax might be too good to turn down.

“The fee I’m being told is in the region of between £15m and £20m with add-ons. I know there is Premier League interest, strong interest for Brighton earlier in the window which seems to have gone quiet. It wouldn’t surprise me if Calvin Bassey was to replace Martinez at Ajax. He offers that versatility.”

Bassey, who cost just £230,000 when he transferred from Leicester to Rangers in 2020, has gained recognition this season as a result of a series of outstanding performances.
