Akpabio Admits Slumping After Birthday Event

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, opened up about the event surrounding the aftermath of his birthday colloquium on Thursday.

According to the Punch, they reported that Akpabio celebrated the second leg of his 61st birthday anniversary with a birthday colloquium in Abuja.

The event, which President Bola Tinubu, attended, came five days after the first one held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital.

Akpabio had, after the event, reportedly slumped while seated on a chair at the hotel where the event was held earlier.

Addressing the journalists on Friday in his office, Akpabio explained that what happened to him was stress-induced, coupled with malaria.

Akpabio said, “What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity.

“I went home and I called my doctors, and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion.

“In fact, anybody could be exhausted. Please drink water regularly so that you don’t get exhausted.”

Akpabio further expressed that he isn’t perturbed by the incident, as the National Assembly is always ready and willing to forge ahead with its duties.

He said, “This is to say that the work goes on. I want to assure Nigerians that the National Assembly is intact and we are still going on with our duty and our appropriation.

“We will resume on December 20. But before then, the various committees must have finished their work to enable us to meet the target of passing the budget before the end of the year for the president to append his signature.”
