Akwa Ibom Youth Leader Macheted To D3ath By His Neighbour

The Akwa Ibom State police command has detained a 37-year-old individual, Joseph Eren, in connection with the death of his neighbor, Ekopimo Moses, following a violent dispute in the Ibesikpo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 14, 2025, noting that the suspect engaged in a heated disagreement with Moses, a youth leader in the local government.

The incident, which took place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, escalated into a physical confrontation during which both parties resorted to using machetes.

Moses suffered severe injuries and was hurriedly taken to the hospital for emergency medical care, where he passed away.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man following a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area,” the statement read.

“On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, Operatives of the Command received a report from a village head (name withheld).

“The village head stated that the community youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old male, had a misunderstanding with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old male who resides in the village but is originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.

“The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which both men used machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He was later pronounced d3ad by the doctor on duty.

“The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue”, the statement concluded.

The PPRO further noted that the command has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter, stating that additional details would be shared with the public as the investigation advances.
