Neymar, a Brazilian football star, is reportedly set to be released by Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal in January due to ongoing injury concerns.
The 32-year-old striker returned to Al-Hilal last month after missing a year due to a torn ACL in his left knee while playing for Brazil in October.
Neymar’s homecoming was cut short on Monday as he was pulled off 29 minutes after coming on as a substitute in Al-Hilal’s Asian Champions League victory over Esteghlal.
The former Barcelona player has attempted to downplay injury concerns, claiming it was a cramp in his right thigh, but Brazilian reports believe he could be out for at least three weeks.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL (via msn.com), Al-Hilal is considering ending its relationship with the celebrity in January.
According to the source, the club is becoming increasingly concerned about Neymar’s involvement in the final six months of the season, as his £130 million-per-year contract expires at the end of the season.
Al-Hilal is reportedly considering mutually terminating Neymar’s contract in January in order to dump his earnings while also providing manager Jorge Jesus with more roster freedom.
Neymar is presently one of eight international players over the age of 21 on the Al-Hilal side, placing the club at the limit of abroad imports under Saudi Pro League regulations.
In Neymar’s absence, the remaining seven players have established themselves as crucial members of the squad, casting doubt on the Brazilian’s future.
Ala contract termination would allow Neymar to return to Brazil, where he has been linked with rejoining Santos, where he made his debut.
Thhe star is also expected to reunite with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at MLS club Inter Miami, since the trio made a renowned attacking force during their time together.
Despite paying PSG a £78 million fee to sign Neymar in a blockbuster deal in 2023 and offering the star a lucrative contract, Al-Hilal has not liked having Neymar on their books.
Due to injuries, Neymar has only made seven competitive appearances for the club, scoring one goal and assisting three others.
