The Anambra State Government is cracking down on students who fail to attend school on Mondays, with suspension looming for those who don’t comply. Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning, citing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to ensure full resumption of academic activities on Mondays.
This move follows the state’s Executive Order abolishing school closures linked to the Monday sit-at-home order. Nine headteachers have already been suspended for two weeks due to low pupil attendance, with some schools recording zero students.
The government has warned that teachers and non-teaching staff who fail to comply will face salary deductions or forfeiture. The state is taking a firm stance on ensuring academic engagement and discipline in public schools.
