APC to Shock Opposition with Convention Success, Says Basiru
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up to shock the opposition with a successful national convention, according to the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru. Basiru dismissed predictions of an implosion within the party, stating that the convention will instead demonstrate the APC’s cohesion and organisational strength.
Basiru emphasized that the APC is united and focused on consolidating its structures and preparing for future political contests. He urged opposition parties to organize themselves instead of wishing for the collapse of the APC, saying, “I will urge the opposition not to participate in the elections if what they are waiting for or banking on is a wishful implosion in our party that will never happen”.
The APC National Secretary also compared his party to Jehovah’s Witnesses, highlighting their grassroots engagement strategy and outreach efforts across the country. He criticized opposition parties for lacking seriousness and failing to engage with Nigerians.
Basiru hinted at another opposition governor joining the APC, stating that with Governor Fintiri’s defection, the party now controls 30 states and is likely to add another soon. He emphasized the APC’s goal of creating a pan-political party and concentrating on governance.
The APC has fixed April 14 for its national convention, and Basiru urged party members to remain committed to the party’s ideals and work collectively towards a successful convention.
Despite internal tensions, including a clash between Basiru and Minister Nyesom Wike, the APC remains confident in its ability to emerge stronger from the convention.
The opposition parties have predicted an implosion within the APC, but Basiru remains unfazed, saying the party will surprise them with its success.
