Apple Abruptly Ends Its Electric Car Project After Ten Years

After ten years and what was considered to be one of the most ambitious projects in the company’s history, Apple has terminated its covert efforts to develop an autonomous electric vehicle.

As per several reports, Apple management notified teams working on the company’s internal project, known as Project Titan, on Tuesday that hundreds of workers on the car will be transferred to artificial intelligence divisions.

With 2,000 workers dedicated to the project, Apple’s push to develop an autonomous car is thought to have cost the business billions of dollars.

Uncertainty surrounds the precise number of Apple personnel impacted, many of whom are anticipated to lose their jobs while others are being transferred to work on AI products.

Apple said it would not comment. Bloomberg was the first to report that Apple was abandoning its automobile project. The article said that Apple was having difficulty developing self-driving technology at the same time that the demand for electric vehicles was starting to decline.

Timothy Donald Cook the chief executive officer of Apple Inc.

Auto executives and Apple enthusiasts were keeping a careful eye on the possibility that Apple, one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, would introduce a car under its brand. This move could revolutionize the automotive sector.

Analysts stated that Apple was still many years away from ever releasing its car, despite the excitement. The company’s engineers have been testing Apple car technologies on public roads for years.

Apple once tried to create a vehicle without pedals or a steering wheel. However, Bloomberg reported in late 2022 that it abandoned the concept because it was not feasible with current technology.

Although Apple never made its self-driving car project public, experts predicted the car would cost about $100,000. It was considered a potential competitor to Tesla electric vehicle models in the same price range.
