Attack At Peter Obi’s Lagos Rally Results In Labour Party’s Fan Having His Hand Amputated

After the incident that shook the grand finale of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign rally in Lagos State last week, a yet to be identified fan of the party had his hand amputated.

Thank Akin Osuntokun, the director general of the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council, announced this on Tuesday during a live appearance on The 2023 Verdict on Channels Television. Osuntokun claimed that despite everything appearing to be in order for the presidential election scheduled for this Saturday, the continued threat of violent voter suppression worried him. He added that another troubling element was the overvoting that was observed in the Osun State elections, which the tribunal used as a requirement to annul the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory in the state despite the implementation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.

Remember that the Lagos police reported that no fewer than four people were hurt after an attack on Peter Obi’s Labour Party supporters.

State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin called the attack on Obi’s supporters “regrettable,” adding that it took place about 15 km from the rally site and that the State Criminal Investigations Department would take over the investigation to capture and prosecute the attackers.

The attack took place in the Ilasan neighborhood of the Eti-Osa Local Government, and the Labour Party’s Jakande Ward Chairman alerted authorities.

The LP DG, however, has stated that because of these concerns, he would not give the election preparation a perfect score.

Osuntokun stated “I won’t score the preparation 100 percent, there are some factors that challenge that conclusion. The predisposition to voter suppression through violence, we have been a victim of that, especially in Lagos.

“INEC people responded to people looking for their PVCs discriminatorily and when we had the rally in Lagos, our supporters were prevented in certain areas from coming to the Tafawa Balewa Square, and some of them were injured. As we speak one of them has had his hand amputated.

“So when you take these into consideration, you cannot be confident that this is going to work well.

“And as I remarked once the fact that the BVAS or the electronic transmission introduction to the system is supposed to preclude the possibility of over-voting, but according to the judgement of the tribunal on the Osun State election that was conducted a while ago, the tribunal nullified the victory of the PDP on account of over-voting, now were does that come in?” Osuntokun asked.
