A car accident at the Muslim cemetery near the Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo route on the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State claimed the lives of fifteen people, all of them men.
The fatal collision, which happened at around 2:32 am on Monday, was a single incident involving a trailer vehicle, a DAF XF with registration number GWL274XC, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The FRSC reports that 48 individuals—all men—were involved in the collision. It stated that 16 people were reported unharmed and 17 people suffered various degrees of injury.
It stated that the driver’s fatigue was the cause of the collision and that the injuries sustained included bruises, fractures, and dislocations.
The driver was identified as Nasiru Muhammad by FRSC Sector Commander Kabiru Kazeem, who also stated that the injured victims had been transported to Arewa Medical Center and Baki Hospital for medical care.
According to Kazeem, the bodies were given to Sarkin Hausawa, Oko Olowo, a representative of the families in the Moro Local Government region of Kwara State.
He stated that personnel from RS8.15 Oloru and RS8.1 Kwara (Oko Olowo outpost) worked together to conduct the rescue operation and that the search for additional victims buried beneath the load was ongoing.
