Baby Drowns After Toy Blocks Bathtub Drain Hole

A baby girl reportedly drowned while having fun in the bathtub with her two older twin brothers, according to the evidence presented at an inquest.

Sara Moosa, who was just 10 months old baby, drowned at home in barely five inches of water, in August 2022, in a slight absence of her mum.

Their mother was keeping an eye on the three kids as the tap was running without a plug, according to a testimony given at a hearing held at Leicester Town Hall.

When the mother returned after leaving to get one of the brothers’ shark toys, which he begged for it, Sara was in the bath lying on her side with her face underwater.

It found out that the bath had filled up because a plastic toy had become wedged above the plug hole.

Coroner Isobel Thistlethwaite summarised what happened saying: “Sara and her two siblings were in the bath with the water running but no plug in.

“One sibling requested a toy. The mother returned and she noticed another toy had blocked the plug hole.

“The two siblings were standing up and Sara was on her side, under the water.”

The family dialled 911 right away, and a call representative gave them CPR instructions.

When the paramedics came, Sara was being revived by her family downstairs on the kitchen counter, the paramedic testified at the inquest.

Sara was taken to an ambulance by the medical personnel, who then drove her and her mother to Leicester Royal Hospital.

Sara, however, was unable to be saved, and on August 14 of last year, the doctors declared her dead.

A post-mortem investigation revealed that she drowned to death.

Miss Thistlethwaite recorded a conclusion of accidental death, adding that “no concerns were raised by the police following an inspection of the scene.”
