Barca Prepared To Take Frenkie de Jong And Three Other Players To Court

According to Sport, Barcelona is prepared to take four of its own players to court if they refuse to terminate the contracts they signed nearly two years ago.

The four players are Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong, Gerard Pique, and Clement Lenglet.

In order to aid Barcelona’s financial situation, De Jong, Pique, Lenglet, and Ter Stegen all agreed to new contracts in October 2020, which required them to temporarily accept wage reductions.

The agreements marked Josep Maria Bartomeu’s final moves as president before he left Camp Nou a week later.

The four players were supposed to be paid back over the following seasons, a decision that would ultimately cost £263 million in future wages.

However, Barcelona’s current administration, led by president Joan Laporta, is now arguing that the agreements made back in 2020 contains “evidence of criminality.”

Barcelona is now asking De Jong, Pique, Lenglet, and Ter Stegen to approve the cancellation of those agreements and a return to the previous term and the club is prepared to file a lawsuit if they do not agree to do so.
