Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the executive vice chairman and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been presented with an ambassadorial badge by Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This was done in appreciation of his efforts to instil an anti-corruption culture inside the communications sector.
Bawa presented the badge to Danbatta yesterday in Abuja during a courtesy visit to his office to strengthen the collaboration between the two agencies.
Under Prof. Danbatta’s leadership, the NCC has been at the forefront of promoting transparency and openness by reinforcing its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit in accordance with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Act.
In 2020, the ICPC ranked the NCC higher than other departments and agencies within the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MoCDE).
With 81.15 per cent, the NCC outperformed the other three ministry-affiliated organizations in terms of institutional integrity and compliance with ethical standards.
Also, the Commission led 24 other regulatory agencies to become the most ethically compliant parastatal out of 25 regulatory agencies evaluated in the 2020 Ethics Compliance and Integrity Scorecards (ECIS) of the anti-graft agency.
The NCC was awarded the topmost platinum recognition for its institutional work processes in 2017 by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), owing to its strong business organizational structure, policies, and practices that facilitated effective and efficient service delivery.
The BPSR also listed some of the high points in reaching this decision, including accountabilities and responsibilities for creating Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manuals for the 19 departments of the Commission.
