REFLECTION

Some people are just worth remembering. They have a profound influence on the very best that emerges in their time.  St. Bernard is one of them. He was born into a noble family but against his family’s wishes, he entered into the Cistercian monastery. Bernard exerted enormous influence.  He participated in several Church Councils, brought unity to the Papacy (persuaded most of the secular rulers to accept Innocent II over Anacletus II), and overcame several heresies that were rampant during his time.   In short, Bernard became one of the most significant religious figures of 12th century.

We see such an influence in the life of Ruth. Naomi was such a great influence that she showed in radiance her love for God and Israel. Naomi decided to go back to Bethlehem but for Ruth it is not only that but she is ready to follow Naomi wherever she goes, wherever she will be, her people will be her own people and her God her God. As a faithful disciple of Jesus we too are called to love God and neighbor; this is the greatest commandment and also use all his considerable gifts to build up the Kingdom of God and bring more people into his vineyard.
