Biden Mistakenly Calls Sunak ‘Mr. President

When UK’s Prime Minister; Rishi Sunak and United States President; Joe Biden first met in the White House, the former addressed Sunak as “Mr. President” due to confusion over his title.

Quickly admitting that he had made a mistake, the US President joked that he had “promoted” Mr. Sunak.

During the bilateral discussion, the 80-year-old US president, who was seated across from Mr. Sunak, said: “Well, Mr. President – Mr. President, I just promoted you. It’s wonderful to have you back, Mr. Prime Minister.

As the new prime minister of the UK who only assumed office in October of last year, Mr. Sunak appeared to laugh off the gaffe.

He was informed by Mr. Biden that they had met in San Diego, Belfast, and Hiroshima over the previous few months.

“And now we’re here we’re going solve all the problems of the world in the next 20 minutes.”

The US president has previously been seen to stumble over his remarks.

Mr. Biden appears to have confused the name of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby club with the Black and Tans, a notorious Irish police force from the War of Independence, in April while on a visit to the Republic.

Although he praised the UK-US relationship’s strength on Thursday, he has not always been that gracious.

He stated last month that he traveled to Ireland to make sure the “Brits didn’t screw around” in the midst of continued concerns about the peace process and the effects of Brexit.
