‘Birth Control Made Me Blind’: Mom Of Two Warns About The Risk
Many women are aware of the various negative consequences of birth control, including depression, weight gain, and even suicidal thoughts and ideation.
Rare ones, like the one that causes blindness, do exist, though.
Chelsey Painter Davis, a blind content creator, gained widespread attention on social media after she disclosed that using birth control was the reason behind her blindness.
“Birth control made me blind, here’s how: When I was 18 years old about to get married. So my physician recommended that I start birth control pills. I did not want to but she made me feel pressured.
“I started getting massive headaches. My PCP (primary care physician) told me it was just stress and I tried to get a massage. The pain continued and my vision started to blur,” she said.
She was idly doing housework, including packing and laundry, while she spoke about this horrific event.
She claimed that by the time she got the assistance she required, it was already too late. She went on to say that the artificial hormones resulted in a pseudo tumor celebri.
“This is a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid that squished my optic nerves to death. I will never see again.”
She vowed that she would spend the rest of her life educating people about the hidden risks associated with birth control because no one had ever warned her about them.
Davis captioned the post: “No one told me about the hidden dangers of birth control, so now I’ll spend my life telling others. For more risks of birth control, follow @blindmomlife where I’ll be sharing questions to ask your doctor, thoughts to consider, and advice from my experience.”
