Brazil Seeking To Bring In Pep Guardiola As New Head Coach

The CBF, the official governing body of football in Brazil, will reportedly make an effort to persuade Pep Guardiola to take the position of head coach.

The five-time World Cup champions are reportedly looking for Tite’s replacement after the 61-year-old announced his resignation following Brazil’s unexpected quarterfinal defeat in Qatar.

The Selecao were eliminated on Friday, December 9 by Croatia, who prevailed in a nail-biting penalty shootout to advance to the semifinals against Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

Tite resigned after serving in the position for more than six years.

It is now reported that the CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues will get in touch with Guardiola, less than a month after he committed to a two-year contract deal with Manchester City.

Brazil, according to the report, is aware that Guardiola has previously stated a desire to lead their national squad.

They still want to know Guardiola’s medium- and long-term goals, despite the fact that it is unlikely they will be able to persuade him to leave his position at the Etihad anytime soon.

The 51-year-old’s new contract keeps him in Manchester through the summer of 2025, which is 12 months before the start of the following World Cup.

The CBF is also not in a hurry to name Tite’s replacement because Brazil won’t play any competitive matches until the second half of 2023.

Legendary Selecao player Ronaldo de Assis Moreira claims that his country tried to secure Guardiola’s services prior to the World Cup in Qatar.

He said: “There was interest in Guardiola, it was discussed with Guardiola’s coaching staff, but he preferred to renew the contract with Manchester City. It might be difficult for the CBF to reach an agreement, he is the highest-paid coach in the world.”
