BREAKING NEWS: Peter Obi Joins Labour Party

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially joined the Labour Party (LP) to run for president in 2023.

Obi enrolled as a member of the party in his ward in Anambra State on Friday, according to Saharareporters.

He is set to contest for the presidential ticket in the party’s primary election on Tuesday.

Obi resigned from the PDP just two days before the party’s presidential primary.

He stated that he resigned due to recent developments within the opposition party. Obi wrote to the PDP’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, on May 24, 2022, saying he had already informed the chairman of the PDP chapter in his Agulu Ward 2 in Anambra State.

He wrote, “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the PDP, which was conveyed to the chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA, effective Friday, May 20, 2022. Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential Primary.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.”
