Breaking News: Britain’s Prime Minister; Boris Johnson Makes Resignation Announcement (VIDEO)

UK’s Prime Minister; Boris Johnson has finally made a formal announcement and addressed the country in front of No. 10 Downing Street today, as he announces that he is resigning from the role of Conservative Party leader and will step down as Prime Minister.

In a statement outside 10 Downing Street, the embattled PM starts with a cheery “Good afternoon”.

He says it is “clearly the will of the parliamentary party that there should be a new leader, and a new PM.” He reminded the people that he was “elected with the biggest majority since 1987 and the biggest share of the vote since 1979.”

Boris said he is proud of what he has achieved, as he mentions “Brexit and getting the country through the pandemic and delivering the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe. And Britain has led the way in supporting Ukraine,” he says.

Boris Johnson after announcing his resignation – says he will stay in the post “until a new leader is in place”. Not what many in his party want.

He accuses the Tory party of “eccentric” behaviour for ousting him, blaming the “herd instinct” of Westminster.

He admits it was “painful” not to be able to see out the full term. “I want you to know how sad I am giving up the best job in the world” but “them’s the breaks”.

“I have agreed with Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of our backbench MPs that the process of choosing that new leader should begin now and the timetable will be announced next week and I have today appointed a Cabinet to serve as I will until a new leader is in place.”

His resignation comes after more than 50 politicians have resigned in protest of his leadership.

We wish him all the best.
