Unintentionally fired in the head by a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire, a bride tragically died at her own wedding ceremony.

Mahvash Leghaei, 24, was getting married in Iran’s Firuzabad when a guest, who is thought to be the groom’s cousin, opened fire with an illegally owned high-powered hunting rifle.

According to reports, the bullet struck her directly in the skull and also wounded two other male attendees.

According to the police spokesperson Colonel Mehdi, “We had an emergency call of a shooting at a wedding hall in Firuzabad city and officers were dispatched immediately.

“The officers discovered that somebody had fired shots with a hunting rifle as part of the local nomad tradition, but unfortunately because of the crowds and the person’s poor control of the weapon, he managed to shoot three people, two men and the bride.

“The shooter then fled the area but police located the man still carrying the unlicensed hunting rifle that had been fired at the wedding.”

Initial accounts state that two shots were fired, the first of which without causality, but the second of which struck the bride in the head, passed through her brain and struck the other two guests.

The bride was sent into a coma and later passed away, according to the police spokesperson, but the two other people who were shot weren’t gravely injured.

The groom’s cousin, a 36-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, was identified as the shooter in this incident.

According to the police spokesperson, “Naturally any disturbance of public order like this crosses the red line with the police need to act, and people need to know that to create a safe community shooting is banned at weddings.

“We will take tough action against anybody found to be breaking this rule.”

According to the victim’s family, three people have benefited from her donated organs.

Despite being against the law, it is nonetheless common in the Middle East to fire a gun at weddings.
