Catholic Priest Reportedly Kidnapped By Terrorist

Rev. Fr. Abraham Kunat, a Catholic priest of St. Bernard named Idon Gida has reportedly been kidnapped by terrorists in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State,

In the early hours of Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the priest was taken hostage in Kurmin Sara, his hometown in Kachia Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed in a statement by the Chancellor, Archdiocese of Kaduna, Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel.

The statement read, “Rev. Fr. Abraham Kunat, the Parish Priest of St. Bernard, Idon Gida, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State was abducted, Tuesday, 8th November 2022 at about 12:30 pm.

“The incident took place at St Mulumba, Kurmin Sara, Kachia LGA, where Fr Kunat has been residing all along due to the insecurity situation.

“We solicit for the prayerful support of the faithful and indeed all men and
women of goodwill that God Almighty will take control of the situation, preserve our priest, and bring him back to us in peace.”

Reverend Joseph Hayeb, the chairman of the State Christian Association of Nigeria, also confirmed the kidnapping to Daily Trust.

He said, “It is a sad situation because he is the priest of Idom but was picked at his village Kurmin Sara in Kachia LGA. It’s a very sad situation because many things are happening in the state unreported.”

According to Hayeb, more work needs to be done to protect the locals from terrorists and criminal forces operating throughout the state.
