Celebrity Spotlight For June 25 Is Harrison Ford

American Actor, Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to Christopher Ford (born John William Ford), a former actor who now works in advertising, and Dorothy (Nidelman), a radio actress. His maternal grandparents were Jewish emigrants from Minsk, Belarus, while his father was of Irish and German descent.

Harrison struggled academically at Maine Township High School East in Park Ridge, Illinois (C averages, no star athlete).

He signed a Hollywood deal with Columbia and later Universal after leaving Wisconsin’s Ripon College, where he did some acting and later summer stock. His television and film performances (The Virginian (1962) and Ironside (1967) both had minor roles, discouraging him, so he decided to pursue a career in professional carpentry.

However, he made a strong comeback four years later in American Graffiti (1973) as Bob Falfa. He achieved superstardom four years later when he played Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977). Ford played Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) after another four years.

He was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe four years later for his performance as John Book in Witness (1985).

In reality, many of his prior successful portrayals — including his more recent portrayal of Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (1992) — led to sequels; all he was able to pull off four years later was his third starring hit as Indiana Jones.

He received a second Golden Globe nod for his portrayal of Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive (1993). He is undoubtedly a well-known Hollywood icon. He also runs a ranch near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that is 800 acres large.

Ford has an 800-acre (3.2 km2) ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, of which he has given almost half as a wildlife reserve. He is a private pilot of both fixed-wing and helicopters.

Ford has personally supplied emergency helicopter services on several occasions at the request of local authorities; in one case, he saved a critically dehydrated hiker. Ford started his flight training on a Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer in the 1960s at Wild Rose Idlewild Airport in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, but at $15 an hour, he could not afford to continue.

Ford serves on the board of the nonprofit organization Wings of Hope, which organizes humanitarian airlifts.
