Chelsea: I Am Already Under Pressure To Win – Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager of Chelsea has stated that he is already under pressure in his new position as he acknowledges that the first expectation at Stamford Bridge is to win despite the club’s troubles last season.

Pochettino has previously held coaching positions with Southampton and Tottenham in the Premier League. With Tottenham, he led the team to the 2019 Champions League final before departing five months later without a trophy. He next relocated to Bayern Munich, where he spent a year as head coach.

Chelsea’s 44-point season last year saw them finish in 12th place, their poorest showing since 1994. The team was in such bad shape that Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and interim manager Frank Lampard had turns to try and stabilize the team.

Pochettino, during his first press conference since taking over at Stamford Bridge on July 1, said: “My target is to win, my aim is to win. Play well is our style, philosophy and culture. If you don’t win in a club like Chelsea, you will struggle.”

“With the players we have and the strategy to believe. It’s about winning, being competitive. And translate this energy to our fans. To create togetherness, it’s difficult, in the Premier League, all together we can be close to winning again.”

The Argentinean coach said he doesn’t think Chelsea will have any more patience.

“In football, it is difficult to wait,” he added. “At Chelsea, you need to deliver from day 1. What we are working on now in the training ground is about delivering from now, on to give our best. Football is about today or yesterday. We cannot talk long-term. We cannot tell people we need six months, I think it is not good. We are going to have a squad of players who can deliver.”
