Coachella Ticket Dumps Price Following Kanye West Drop Out

Coachella ticket prices are said to have dropped by 40% as a result of Kanye West’s withdrawal from the festival.

Coachella’s general admission tickets was ranged from $450 to $550 when purchased directly from the festival. As April approached, the price of a three-day GA ticket on the secondary market climbed to $675.

However, after Kanye West informed, on April 4, that he will not be performing at Coachella 2022, the ticket prices on secondary ticketing marketplaces began to fall.

Following a tip from TickPick.com, Digital Music News began looking into costs in the run-up to Coachella. TickPick, a secondary ticket seller, sold a one-day GA ticket for $390, which is a 56 per cent discount from the ticket price when Kanye was on the bill. Prior to April 4, secondary tickets were selling for as much as $685.

According to TickPick, the average sales price for a three-day ticket to Coachella dropped by 32% from $685 before the Kanye news to $465 thereafter.

Mr West “continues to be one of the biggest draws in the business,” TickPick’s founder and CEO, Brett Goldberg said.

The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia were revealed as Mr West’s replacements for the festival, but the decision was not without controversy.

There’s also talk that The Weeknd requested to be paid Kanye’s pay, or else he was going to leave as well. The Weeknd reportedly refused to take the stage unless he was paid $8.5 million, which is what Coachella was offering Kanye for his appearance, according to Page Six.

According to Page Six, “Faced with the prospect of a second headline act pulling out of Coachella at the last minute — Anschutz’s company caved and agreed to pay The Weeknd the same money.”
