In Agorogbene community, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, a suspected electricity cable thief was handed a plate of noodles after being beaten, to regain strength as they planned to give another round of beating.

On Wednesday, April 20, the suspect, Preye Ayase, and his partner, Ringo Tareladei, were caught red-handed disconnecting power cables connecting the towns of Ogobiri and Agorogbene in Sagbama.

The President of the Creek Youths Agenda (CYA), Ouseibai Seperegha Godsgift M, has condemned the hoodlums for destroying, stealing, and vandalizing the electric infrastructure (cables) that connects the two towns.

The group’s president voiced his disappointment over the shameful incident and called on youths from the area to abstain from such acts immediately as it will only spell doom for them and unfavourably affect their advancement.

He said, “It is very sad and unfortunate that young people were caught vandalizing our near none electric infrastructure with the aim of making money. It is more worrisome especially now that we are agitating for more development of the creek considering its neglect developmentally over the years. To me, I feel pained that young people who ought to protect our facilities in the creek are the ones perpetrating such nefarious acts of destruction.

“Therefore, I urge those with such criminal minds to desist from such and engage themselves in productive ventures that will add value to our creek and the society at large or they should be ready to face the full wrath of the law when apprehended.”

The CYA President also took the opportunity to appeal to the Bayelsa State Government to assist the impacted communities in restoring power by replacing already damaged electric facilities in Agorogbene, Ogobiri, and other communities in the Creek, claiming that power is critical for the development of SMEs in the area.
