Court Denies Senator Okorocha Bail After EFCC Arrest

Senator Rochas Okorocha, who was arrested by the EFCC, has been denied bail by Justice Inyang Eden of a Federal High Court in Abuja today, May 27.

On Tuesday, May 24, Okorocha was detained by the EFCC at his house in Abuja. The former governor of Imo state, according to the agency, has continuously refused to honour invitations for questioning on the allegations of fraud levied against him.

Okorocha, who represents Imo West in the National Assembly, submitted an ex-parte motion claiming that he is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC and that his political ambitions would be compromised if he was not given bail.

In his decision on the bail application, Justice Eden stated that he was not persuaded to grant Okorocha bail but instead ordered the senator to put the Federal Government on notice to come and defend his arrest.

Okorocha had been scheduled to be tried twice before the same judge on money laundering allegations totalling N2.9 billion, but he refused to appear in court.
