Court Remands Farmer For Killing His Wife In Benue

A Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court ruled that Matthew Bem, who is accused of killing his wife Mngusonum Bem, should be placed under detention in a Makurdi correctional facility on Friday, November 3.

The farmer, 42, was accused of culpable homicide. He resides in the Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue and works at Korinya Settlement.

But Mr T.K. Atta, the Chief Magistrate, rejected his argument that he lacked jurisdiction.

Atta postponed the issue until December 20, 2023, so that it could be discussed further.

According to the letter, the defendant and his wife, 30, got into a fight on that fateful October 24. During the altercation, the defendant took a knife and stabbed his wife, causing her to bleed to death immediately.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant willingly confessed to perpetrating the crime after being taken into custody during a police inquiry.

According to him, the offence was committed in violation of section 222 of the Benue 2004 penal code.
