Crochet-a-thon: A Nigerian Woman Begins Knitting A Bridal Garment For 72 Hours

In an attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR), Nigerian crochetist and social entrepreneur Okafor Chidinma Modupe began her 72-hour crochet-a-thon today. She started on Sunday, December 24, at 2:00 p.m.

The crocheting marathon will run through December 27 at GOGE Africa in Maryland, Lagos. Using a hooked needle to loop thread, crochet is a type of needlework. It entails working with varying amount of loops on the hook to create various stitches.

The 30-year-old crocheter intends to construct a wedding gown during this crochet-a-thon. Chidinma, who is overjoyed at having broken the record, informed newsmen that she had prepared to break the mark because it would allow her to realize a lifetime desire.

After an incredible 34 hours and 7 minutes in November 2023, Alessandra Hayden of Gig Harbor, Washington, USA, now holds the record for the longest marathon crocheting.Hayden attempted knitting a blanket, which she later contributed to her daughter’s school auction. A friend purchased the blanket for $2,000 and returned it to Hayden as a gift.

Numerous Nigerian teenagers have been attempting to create or break world records in various domains of life, motivated by the world record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for the longest cooking marathon.

Chidinma stated that her family has been incredibly supportive and encouraging of her endeavor to break the record.

She went on to say that she took up crocheting as a hobby when she was very young and eventually developed a strong interest for making various gowns and accessories.
