The Decision To Marry – Part I

It is easier to think about, fantasize and talk about our wedding day than it is to think about the marriage itself.

Most people see a wedding as a once-in-a-lifetime affair and want the best out of it. This, however, may differ from one continent to another. In some parts of Africa for instance most couples look forward to a perfect day, and in many cases, spend more than a lifetime’s savings for such an occasion. The irony is that some even go as far as borrowing to finance their “talk of the town” dream weddings and end up spending rigorous years repaying debts to the people or organization from which they borrowed.

It is not uncommon in Europe and the United States to find two people who meet today, fall in love, and get married the next day, committing the barest minimal finances to the wedding.
Why are things different on these continents?
Why do some spend so little, and some spend so much to achieve the same purpose – a wedding?
Do people prepare at all for the marriage?
Young people at heart and couples need to know the importance of placing greater emphasis on the institution of marriage itself than on the wedding celebrations alone.

The Decision to marry
Young ladies and men who have the intention of getting married and couples who are already married, need to understand that marriage is the single and main reason of every union and not the tales that people might tell about their wedding ceremonies.
Many people never really believed they would one day be making that decision to be with someone for the rest of their lives. Some never wanted or planned to do so. They believed in the single lifestyle, until, suddenly, they met that person that turned everything around for them. Hard for them to believe, but, now they are thinking about it, starting to consider it.
They start to believe it might be more fun and enjoyable to be united with someone in love.

Then one day they realize they don’t want to lose that person ever, and just to make sure, they decide it might be a good idea to tie the knot.
