Don Jazzy Shares Challenges Behind His Toughest Career Choices

Ace Nigerian music executive and record producer Michael Collins Ajereh, better known by his stage name as Don Jazzy, acknowledged that one of the hardest choices of his career was to let go of former Mavin artist Di’ja.

In a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Jazzy recalled how tense the situation was, and Di’ja noted that he felt uneasy about leaving the record label.

He said, “One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself. Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label.

“Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us. And she [Di’ja] knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”

On February 14, 2014, Di’ja signed a record deal with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. She released several singles and an EP under Mavin Records between 2014 and 2017.

Dija clarified in 2023 that although she never officially left Mavin Records, “life happened.”

In reflecting on his journey, Don Jazzy emphasizes the importance of resilience and unwavering passion in overcoming difficult career decisions. His openness about the challenges he faced serves as an inspiration to aspiring artists and entrepreneurs alike, illustrating that success often requires courage, perseverance, and the willingness to make tough choices.

Ultimately, his story underscores the idea that difficult decisions, when navigated thoughtfully, can lead to growth, fulfillment, and long-term achievement.
