Easter Bloodshed: Bandits Kill 17 in Benue, Katsina, and Kaduna

Bandits have struck again, leaving a trail of death and destruction in Benue, Katsina, and Kaduna states on Easter Sunday. In Benue, 17 people were killed when gunmen attacked the Anwase market in Kwande Local Government Area.

The attackers, believed to be herders, also destroyed several properties, leaving traders and residents in shock. This attack comes just two days after a similar incident in Abande community, where 17 people, including a mobile police officer, were killed.

In Katsina, bandits killed at least 20 residents in Doma community, Faskari Local Government Area. The attackers moved unhindered, shooting villagers and setting houses and vehicles ablaze.

The Katsina State Government has condemned the attack, describing it as a “deadly reprisal” and the worst in recent months. In Kaduna, three people were killed, and 11 others, including a Catholic priest, were abducted in an attack on the Karku community, Kauru Local Government Area.

The Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, confirmed the abduction and called for prayers for the safe return of the victims. The police have launched an investigation into the attacks, and security agencies are working to restore calm to the affected communities.

The attacks have sparked concerns about the security situation in Nigeria, with many calling for increased efforts to address the issue. The government has promised to intensify efforts to combat banditry and protect citizens.

In recent months, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in banditry, with several communities attacked and residents killed or kidnapped. The situation has become a major concern for the government and citizens alike.

The Easter attacks have left many families in mourning, and the affected communities are calling for justice. The government must take urgent action to address the security challenges facing the country.

The attacks have also raised questions about the effectiveness of the government’s security measures and the need for a more robust response to the crisis. The situation remains fluid, with security agencies working to track down the perpetrators.

As the nation reels from the attacks, citizens are demanding answers and calling for increased security measures to prevent further bloodshed. The government must act swiftly to restore peace and stability to the affected areas.
