The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned politicians against discrediting the anti-graft agency, alleging that some opposition politicians are plotting to undermine its efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the agency has uncovered plans by politicians and interest groups to launch smear campaigns against the commission and its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, with allegations of political bias.
According to Oyewale, the campaign aims to intimidate the EFCC and discourage it from investigating opposition politicians, portraying its actions as partisan. The EFCC reiterates its non-political stance, emphasizing that corruption allegations will be pursued against any political actor, regardless of party affiliation.
Several prominent figures from both ruling and opposition parties are currently under investigation or facing trial, according to the EFCC. The agency warns that attempts to distract it from its mandate will not be tolerated.
