Eight Men Responsible For The Murder Of INEC Staff Arrested

Eight kidnappers, who were responsible for the killing of a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Emmanuel Igwe, in Evo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have been apprehended.

The kidnappers kidnapped Igwe’s wife and assassinated the father of Ohanaeze youth leader Ajah Okeafor, who was gathering yams on his farmland last Sunday, according to LIB.

Igwe’s wife was freed unharmed after paying the kidnappers a ransom, according to the chairman of the Ivo LGA, Mr Emmanuel Ajah, who verified the situation to newsmen on Sunday, June 25, in Abakaliki.

According to him, the kidnappers were tracked to their hiding place and caught thanks to a collaborative effort by security services.

“The kidnappers who killed INEC staff last Sunday and abducted his wife, and also butchered the father of Ohaneze youth leader, Ajah Okeafor, have been arrested,” he said.

The kidnappers were tracked after collecting the ransom, according to Ajah, who also mentioned that they were seen with some bad youths from the Lonkpanta village and some Fulani ranchers.

“We didn’t sleep since that incident happened, the kidnappers demanded ransom, and we gave it to them. We tracked them to their hideout through the joint efforts of the security agencies and my men. We have apprehended eight of them, and we are still searching for the remaining two, who are the major kingpin,” he added.

The council boss stated that the apprehended suspects are responsible for the various kidnapping episodes in the council region and vowed to organize security officers to search their hideouts to prevent future tragedies.

He advised the council’s members to stay away from conspiracies and any connection to committing crime because no one will be spared, and urged them to provide the police with vital security information that will lead to the arrest of the fleeing criminals.
