Ekiti Knowledge Zone: Oyebanji Disburses N1.45bn Compensation to 195 Landowners

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has presented cheques worth N1.45 billion to 195 landowners in Ijan, Awo, and Araromi Ekiti, whose properties were acquired for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) project. This strategic initiative aims to create an innovation-driven ecosystem and business incubation platform for knowledge-based enterprises in the state.

  • Job Creation: The EKZ project is projected to deliver over 14,000 jobs, tackling unemployment and building a sustainable future for future generations.
  • Compensation Package: The total compensation package, initially assessed at N1.119 billion, has been reviewed to reflect current economic realities and now stands at N1.45 billion.
  • Supporting Infrastructure: The EKZ will have critical supporting infrastructure, including the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport and the Ekiti Ring Road Project.

Government’s Commitment:

  • Transparency: The government has engaged Green Engagement Limited as a consultant to ensure a transparent process in implementing the resettlement action plan for project-affected persons.
  • Additional Support: The administration remains committed to providing additional support measures to vulnerable persons, including capacity development, vocational skills training, and social services.

Stakeholders’ Reactions:

  • Onijan of Ijan Ekiti: Oba Adebanji Aladesuyi described the EKZ project as “a complete solution to the country’s problem intellectually and technically and guarantees all-round development.”
  • Beneficiaries: Bankole Ojo, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, assured the government of their cooperation towards the implementation of the project.

The EKZ project is a catalyst for development, leveraging Ekiti’s intellectual capital to drive inclusive economic growth and create a vibrant hub for innovation and service-driven industries.
