Ekiti Worshippers Escaped Kidnappers’ Clutches And Regain Freedom

The worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Igbala, Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, in the Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have been freed after being held captive for 67 days.

After more than two months of uncertainty and suffering for their families and the community, they were set free late on Friday night.

After experiencing physical and psychological trauma during their captivity, the victims were transported to a nearby medical facility for examinations and treatment as soon as they arrived in Eda Oniyo at midnight.

On April 28, 2026, heavily armed gunmen stormed a church revival program at the prayer mountain in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, abducting them.

Before kidnapping fifteen worshippers and marching them into the forest, the attackers reportedly opened fire during the program, killing a pastor.

A community leader confirmed the news on Saturday, stating that the kidnappees had been freed after being held captive for several weeks.

He revealed that one of the prisoners did not make it through the ordeal, calling the news devastating for both the community and the grieving family.

The Ekiti State Police Command had not yet confirmed the victims’ release or provided information about the circumstances surrounding their release at the time this report was filed.

We thank God for his divine protection and mercy that kept the worshippers safe and brought them through this difficult ordeal. His unwavering presence has been our strength and refuge. Truly, His power and grace have delivered us from danger, and we give all the glory and praise to Him for restoring our faith, hope, and safety.

Live with Purpose, Love with Passion. Remember to be happy
