Elementary School Rejects Creating ‘After School Satan Club’

A Pennsylvania elementary school has rejected the suggestion to establish an “After School Satan Club” — a controversial extracurricular educational program sponsored by the Satanic Temple of the United States.

According to Fox 5, it was reported that the Northern Elementary School in York considered introducing Satan Club to the school’s programs after a parent had proposed that since the school allows Christian programs then the school should have the club.

The principal of the school had initially rejected starting the club but he later called up for a vote by the board before they declined to have it.

The board rejected the idea 8-1.

The Satanic Temple offers the program in select public schools as an alternative to Christian Good News and is meant to be educationally enriching. Their goal is not to convert children to Satanism, the Temple assures. Which many don’t believe.

“Proselytization is not our goal, and we’re not interested in converting children to Satanism,” the temple says about the program on its website, “After School Satan Clubs will focus on free inquiry and rationalism, the scientific basis for which we know what we know about the world around us.

“We prefer to give children an appreciation of the natural wonders surrounding them, not a fear of everlasting other-worldly horrors.”

In January, parents protested after an After School Satan Club was established at an Illinois elementary school. School officials defended their decision to keep the program, claiming it could not illegally deny the club permission to rent space at the public school which could result in a costly discrimination lawsuit.

The Satanic Temple says it views Satan as a “mythical figure representing freedom individual,” according to its website.

“Satanists should actively work to be critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things,” the temple says. “Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse.”

If they had used an alternative name rather than Satan, the school board probably wouldn’t know the difference because this
sounds very scary. What do you guys think?
