Elon Musk Announces Voice & Video Calls For Twitter

Twitter, or X, as its owner Elon Musk dubbed it, will be able to conduct video and voice calls without a phone number, according to a tweet from Musk on Thursday. Twitter is arguably the most popular social media platform in the world.

It is possible to make video and voice calls to X using IOS, Android, Mac, and PC. No need for a phone number.

“X serves as the world’s practical address book. This combination of elements is special, the billionaire South African-born wrote.

Over 19 million people have viewed the message in the three hours since Musk released it.

DemandSage estimates that as of 2023, there will be about 450 million active monthly users on Twitter and almost 2 billion on WhatsApp.

Musk and X might be a serious threat to Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta platform if Twitter keeps growing its user base.

Around 80% of Twitter’s previous employees were sacked when Musk took over the business; as a result, the company now only has roughly 600 workers. Later, Musk issued an apology for firing the employees.

“I apologize for firing these brilliant people. They will undoubtedly be very useful somewhere with their huge talent, Musk tweeted in November 2022.

Soon after, it was revealed that Zuckerberg was introducing Threads, an app that Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter, called a “Twitter clone.”

It was also discovered that after Musk paid $44 billion to buy Twitter, Zuckerberg hired the workers that Musk had fired.

In just a few hours after launching Threads, Zuckerberg was able to grow an application at a record-breaking rate thanks to the Meta platform.

Alex Spiro, a lawyer representing Twitter, reportedly threatened to sue Meta for recruiting the workers that Twitter had sacked.

According to the Reuters article, Spiro wrote to Meta in a letter saying “Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.”
