Elon Musk Dissolves Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council

Twitter, a social media corporation, has dissolved its Trust and Safety Council, a volunteer body formed in 2016 to offer guidance on in-person decisions.

Around 3,700 of Twitter’s employees—or half of its workforce—have been sent off since Elon Musk took over the firm and implemented a cost-cutting drive.

Yoel Roth, Twitter’s former head of trust and safety, is one of the more than 1,000 people who have left the company.

According to an email sent to the Trust and Safety Council members, which was accessed by Reuters, “As Twitter moves into a new phase, we are reevaluating how best to bring external insights into our product and policy development work. As part of this process, we have decided that the Trust and Safety Council is not the best structure to do this.”

Additionally, the group’s Twitter account was been taken down.

According to a web archive for the page, the Trust and safety council included a variety of civil rights organizations, academics, and other groups that were to promote safety and counselled Twitter as it developed products, services, and standards.

The email from Twitter further read, “Our work to make Twitter a safe, informative place will be moving faster and more aggressively than ever before and we will continue to welcome your ideas going forward about how to achieve this goal.”

Three Council members left last week, raising concerns about the security of Twitter users.

Elon Musk revealed that the council members were unwilling to take action against child exploitation on the microblogging site, a long-time accusation that Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, claimed was “false.”

One of the Trust and Safety Council members Anne Collier said on Twitter, “It is clear from research evidence that, contrary to claims by Elon Musk, the safety and wellbeing of Twitter’s users are on the decline.”
