Elon Musk To Lift Twitter’s Permanent Ban On Donald Trump

Elon Musk has stated that he will lift the ban of former President Donald Trump from Twitter.

Twitter’s soon-to-be owner criticized the social media platform for permanently banning Trump.

During a press conference at the Future of the Car event in London on Tuesday, May 10, Elon said, “I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake.

“I would reverse the perma-ban. I will say that I don’t own Twitter yet, so this is not a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter? But my opinion, and Jack Dorsey, I want to be clear, shares this opinion, is that we should not have perma-bans.”

Following the Capitol riot in January 2020, Twitter banning Trump, according to Musk, “was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme.”

“It alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

Donald Trump stated that he hoped Musk’s plan to buy Twitter for $44 billion was successful, but that his own Truth Social would be his exclusive platform.

Trump said, “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News on April 25.

“I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth.”

Musk claimed on Tuesday that Trump’s move to Truth Social was evidence of Twitter’s failure in permanently banning him.

Bans, according to Elon Musk, should be limited and exclusively applied to bots and fake accounts.

When asked if Trump’s statements surrounding the January 6 uprising warranted action, Musk responded, “A temporary suspension is appropriate, but not a permanent ban.”

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
