The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He died on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Abuja. The late Emir was known for his dedication to the people of Zamfara State and his commitment to promoting peace and development in the region.

  • Early Life and Career: Before becoming the Emir, Dr. Bello was a distinguished civil servant who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the then Sokoto and later Zamfara State civil service. He was a licensed nursing professional and made significant contributions to the development of the health sector in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
  • Reign: Dr. Bello was turbaned as the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, after the death of his father. During his decade-long reign, he played a significant role in Zamfara’s socio-cultural affairs and was regarded as a unifying figure and voice of wisdom within the traditional institution and the broader northern region.
  • Leadership: He led with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of faith, earning the respect and admiration of his people. Governor Dauda Lawal described him as a supportive royal father and a capable leader who dedicated himself to making Zamfara State better.
