Enugu Governor Mbah Targets N870bn Internally Generated Revenue In 2026 Budget

Enugu Governor Mbah sets N870 billion IGR target for 2026, urging MDAs to boost efficiency and revenue mobilisation.

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has set an ambitious N870 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for the state in the 2026 fiscal year, charging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to intensify revenue mobilisation efforts amid global economic uncertainties.

The governor gave the directive while addressing political appointees and civil servants during a New Year service recently held at Government House Chapel, Enugu, to mark the commencement of official activities for the year.

Mbah explained that the revenue target formed a major pillar of the state’s N1.62 trillion 2026 budget, stating that fluctuating global conditions and uncertainties surrounding external revenue sources, particularly federal allocations, made it imperative for the state to deepen its reliance on internally generated funds.

According to him, out of the total budget size, N870 billion is projected to come from IGR, while N387 billion is expected from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), and N329 billion from capital receipts.

Mbah urged MDAs to improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery, stressing that revenue growth is directly linked to the quality and speed of services provided to citizens and investors.

He said, “Given the geopolitical tensions across the globe, revenue projections have become more uncertain. We must therefore work harder, improve our systems and ensure that every agency delivers optimal value to justify the confidence of the people.”

The governor called for discipline, innovation and collaboration across government institutions, adding that the administration would continue to support reforms aimed at expanding the state’s economic base and improving ease of doing business.
The governor also appreciated Enugu residents for their continued support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability, inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The service was attended by top government functionaries, including the deputy governor, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, judicial officers and traditional rulers.
