FAAN Warns Nigerian Airport Workers Who Extort Passengers

Mr Kabir Mohammed, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has warned to discipline agency officials, government employees, and anyone who extort passengers.

There have been multiple reports of airport workers extorting passengers, particularly international passengers, but Mohammed stated that FAAN has intervened by hiring “mystery staff” at the country’s four international airports.

On Monday, December 4, he stated this during a one-day sensitization event on the Airport Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) project hosted by the Directorate of Airport Operations at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA).

He added that the mystery staff’s job was to observe the behaviour of airport employees and report them to management.

He warned that anyone caught in such a behaviour during the holiday season will risk disciplinary action.

The FAAN chief challenged representatives of all government agencies operating at the airport, including Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, Police, and others, to be at their maximum best when carrying out their day-to-day operations.

He emphasised the importance of teamwork among airport personnel from various authorities.

“We are one airport and if there’s any wrongdoing, people don’t bother to know which agency did the wrong. They only know the airport where they were wronged,” he maintained.
