Face Masks You Can Make At Home With Natural Ingredients

Face masks are known to replenish and moisturize your skin. They are deemed effective treatments because the ingredients can sit on your skin for about 10 to 30 minutes. Using many ingredients in your kitchen like avocado, lemon, oatmeal, and others, you can make a homemade facial mask and give your face the nourishment and hydration it needs.

I researched for you. Here are 4 DIY facial masks you can use to rejuvenate your skin;

Avocado, banana, and honey

Bananas, as well as avocados, are rich in antioxidants which help to fight free radicals, and together, the mixture of bananas, avocado, and honey, will help lock in moisture with all the minerals and vitamins that are needed for healthy skin.

Ingredients: Half banana, half avocado, and one tablespoon of honey

Directions: Mash the banana and avocado, and then mix. Add in the tablespoon of honey and mix again until fully incorporated. Apply the mask onto clean skin using a face brush or fingertips and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Honey, lemon, and tomato

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants, while honey, with its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, kills acne-causing elements.

Ingredients: One tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of tomato pulp, and juice from half a lemon.

Directions: Combine all ingredients before gently applying the mask onto the skin using a face brush or fingertips. Leave it to dry for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat your face dry with a towel.

Avocado and cucumber

Avocados are filled with oleic acid content. They reduce inflammation whilst also helping with fine lines. Cucumbers on the other hand are made up of 90 percent water; it hydrates the skin and stops it from over-producing oil when it needs moisture.

Ingredients: Half an avocado and one-quarter of a cucumber.

Directions: Mash the avocado until smooth, blend the cucumber, and mix in until smooth. Apply the mask gently on your face and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Yoghurt, honey, and turmeric

Made with natural ingredients, this recipe is gentle yet effective in achieving super-smooth and supple skin.

Ingredients: One tablespoon of plain yoghurt, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of turmeric powder

Directions: Stir all the components until the yoghurt turns dark yellow from the turmeric and honey.

Set aside. Wash your face and towel dry. Apply the mixture and leave it on for a maximum of 10 minutes. Any longer and the natural colour of turmeric will stain the skin. After 10 minutes, wash your face with water.

Oatmeal and Honey

This all-natural face mask helps relieve redness and skin irritation all while leaving a natural glow to the skin. Oatmeal is naturally soothing and helps relieve inflammation as well as irritation. Oats are also a natural exfoliate and help slough off dead skin cells.

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of oats, 1 tablespoon of honey.

Directions: Microwave or cook the oats with water to make a thick porridge (2 mins). Allow it to cool. Add the honey. Apply to the face and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with water.

Add hot water to the mixture of oats and honey and stir until well combined. Allow it to cool, then apply to face for 10 – 15 minutes.

Don’t make a big batch of your DIY mask to save for later. Once you create a homemade mask, use it immediately. The ingredients could develop bacteria the longer it sits, which could end up clogging your pores which is not what we want.

Don’t forget to do a patch test on your skin for possible irritations.
