In a shocking disclosure that has rocked Delta State, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Warri Zone, has exposed a fake medical establishment in Udu, reportedly functioning as a baby factory.
The finding came to light during the association’s regular inspection exercise, designed to identify unqualified practitioners and unregistered medical facilities within the zone.
Chief Dr. Bright Djebah, Chairman of NMA Warri Zone, which encompasses Warri metropolis, Uvwie, and Udu, verified the incident in an interview with Daily Independent on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
He disclosed that the operation was led by his executive team as part of their routine monthly zonal inspections.
“This was as a result of our Excos’ routine monthly zonal monitoring of our zone for medical quacks and unregistered hospital facilities, ably led by me,” Dr. Djebah explained.
The illicit facility, known as Blessed Gifted Hospital, is situated at 17 Orhuwhorun Road, near Silver Link Hotel, Udu.
According to Dr. Djebah, the individual posing as a doctor, who ran the operation, was apprehended along with an auxiliary nurse who was tending to the infants during the raid.
“The fake self-acclaimed Medical Doctor and Director of Blessed Gifted Hospital is Udom Nyakno Reuben aka Gift Gab. At the point of arrest, four babies were discovered and rescued. They were handed over to security agencies and are now being cared for at an undisclosed orphanage home in Asaba,” he disclosed.
After the raid, the suspects were first taken to Ovwian Police Station before being moved to the Police Force Headquarters in Asaba for further investigation.
Dr. Djebah emphasized the severe risks posed by such counterfeit facilities, highlighting that they jeopardize the health of mothers and infants.
“These illegal operations increases child and maternal mortality rates. Such centres endangers not only the lives of unsuspecting patients but also the entire community,” he warned.
Regarding cooperation with government bodies, the NMA Warri Zone Chairman confirmed that the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr. Awunor Alexander, was promptly notified, ensuring the issue was escalated to the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Delta State.
Dr. Djebah reassured the public that the NMA is ramping up its monitoring activities across Delta State to combat quackery and prevent similar unlawful practices.
“We are on top gears to ensure we get rid of medical quacks from the State,” he affirmed.
The NMA Warri Zone has called on the public to stay alert and report any dubious medical facilities to the relevant authorities.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
