Family Of Woman Beaten To Death In Hotel Writes Petition

The family of Chinyere Awuda, who was allegedly battered to death in the Cosmila Hotel in Awka, Anambra State, has filed a police report.

Chinyere went dancing at DFame Nightclub at Cosmilla Hotel on July 16, 2023, only to be discovered dead the next morning in an abandoned swimming pool on the property.

She was allegedly beaten to death for allegedly stealing cash bundles that were being sprayed on a birthday celebrant.

According to the Awuda family’s plea to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Eziafa Enwedo of Rigota Chambers, their daughter was a victim of conspiracy and willful murder.

The petition titled, “Call for Thorough Investigation of Conspiracy, Murder With Intent to Commit Rituals; Accessory After the Fact to Murder of Miss Chinyere Awuda, Attempt to Compound Felony by Coaxing the Deceased Family into Accepting Settlement Before Conclusion of Investigation,” said their daughter was murdered by her killers without resistance by the hotel management.

The petition is directed against Chinemere Hope Gabriel (aka Bullion Van), Steven Junior (aka Exclusive), Cosmila Hotel and Suites Ltd management, and others at large.

According to the family, the deceased was gang-beaten to death by the accused while under the supervision of bouncers and hotel security.

The petitioners requested that the hotel management produce a detailed CCTV video of what occurred both inside the club where the claimed beating began and outside where the alleged murder occurred.

However, in a statement signed by Mr Stanley Akuneziri, the Awka branch manager, the hotel stated that the deceased was not beaten to death and placed in the swimming pool, as claimed by the family and a portion of the media.

The hotel stated that it would always act in the public interest and that it was open to a full investigation into the incident.

DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, responded by saying the command was aware of the issue and that four individuals had been apprehended.
